Valgranges A07.211 automatic chronograph : Valgranges is a part of ETA. Which in turn is a part of the Swiss mega-company many of you may be familiar with…The Swatch Group. The Valgranges line of movements came out in approximately 2005 and they offer the following movements: – A07.111: Three (3) hand automatic – A07.161: Three (3) hand automatic with power reserve indicator – A07.171: Three (3) hand automatic with GMT or 24 hour hand – A07.211: Automatic chronograph The Valgranges line of movements was developed specifically for the advent of large or oversized watches. Swiss watch movements use an older French term called the “ligne” (or line) to measure size. A ligne is the equivalent of 2.2558mm. This is rounded to 2.26mm to make it a bit easier math. It is represented as a series of three (3) single quote marks or ”’. In the case of the Valjoux 7750, it is a 13 1/4”’ or just under 29mm. The Valgrange A07.211 is a 16 1/2”’ movementment or just over 37mm. So, as you can see, a much, much larger movement size. Now, when put into a larger or oversized watch case (like Invicta is known for), the hands and sub-dials don’t appear to have a compressed look to them on the dial. The A07.211 is based off of the design of the Valjoux 7750, but just done on a much larger scale. Here are some specifics on the movement that you should be aware of: – The cost of a Valgranges A07.211 is approximately 38% more than that of a Valjoux 7750. – The Valgranges A07.211 is a 25 jewel automatic chronograph. – The Valgranges A07.211 operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour or 4 Hz. – The Valgranges A07.211 that we are offering is within the Elabore grade of movements that is offered and is adjusted to 3 positions for accuracy. – The Valgranges A07.211 is a rhodium plated movement (from the platnium family) and is finished with both a Cotes de Geneve and Perlage decoration. – The Valgranges A07.211 has an approximate 48 hours of power reserve. Meaning, it will run for approximately 48 hours once the mainspring is fully wound. – The Valgranges A07.211 uses a more advanced ETACHRON regulator system as well as the more advanced Incabloc shock protection system. – The Valgranges A07.211 is a hacking movement. Meaning, when the crown is fully pulled out, it will “freeze” or stop the movement. – The Valgranges A07.211 is a hand wind movement, meaning you can wind the mainspring via the crown as well as by wearing it. When wearing it, the rotor in the back of the watch serves as the winding mechanism. – The Valgranges A07.211 winds in the clockwise direction. Meaning, if you put yours on a watch winder you will want to set it for a clockwise direction at about 800 TPD (Turns Per Day). The biggest thing that all of you should know, besides the much higher price point of the movement, is that the Valgranges line of movements falls into the same situation as the ETA, Valjoux and Unitas movements. That is, that the Swatch Group is severely limiting the availability of these movements. Given the latest status of the court situation in Switzerland, The Swatch Group will be reducing the number of movements (and parts for these movements) this year and then further reducing them each year until they are (for the most part) unavailable to anyone outside of the brands owned by The Swatch Group by 2018. Prices are already going through the roof and will continue to do so. Forget a multi-year wait time now. The movements are coming arriving in “drips and drabs” and it has taken over a year to be able to bring out the limited number of watches that will be offered on 07/28. The days of an affordable watch using the Valgranges A07.211 (or any Valgranges for that matter) is quickly drawing to a close.
